Nissan Intima news - Tokyo Madness: Nissan Intima - 2007

Published: 10 Oct 2007

Call that a concept? After the all-out weirdness of the Toyota RiN and Hi-CT, the Nissan Intima concept - due to debut in Tokyo, naturally - looks rather restrained.

In fairness, the Intima - described as a 'New-Generation Saloon for People with a Sophisticated, Discerning Eye for Beauty' (and if you think you match that description, you really don't) - does have a mammoth set of suicide doors, but aside from that it's a relatively conventional design.

That means we could see some of the Intima's styling - sleek lines with a slightly CLS-inspired curve to the swage line - appearing on the next generation of Nissan's executive car, called the Maxima in the US and the Teana in Japan.

It's a model we don't get in the UK at the moment, but it shares a platform with the Murano so could easily find its way to these shores.

Nissan has gone to town on the Intima's interior, with a swivelling passenger seat and swathes of leather and shiny metal demonstrating up-market intentions.

Nonetheless, until it gets an algae-filled steering wheel and a gearshift made of recycled ivory, we're refusing to recognise it as a proper concept.
