Nissan has one of the world’s smallest ever car washes

Car manufacturing is a long, drawn-out and complicated process with numerous technical difficulties and obstacles to overcome. Making sure the engines spin the right way. Making sure the doors open and close. Ad infinitum. 

And making sure paint lasts. Step forward Nissan’s miniaturised car wash, said to be about the size of a popcorn machine and built to test the longevity of the firm’s paint.

It’s to make sure every shade can “stay looking great”. As such, the diddy machine uses a spinning brush that mimicks the almighty schlacking your regular car gets from a forecourt wash.

“Nissan’s miniature car wash spins the brush at around 180rpm,” we’re told, “causing the bristles to harshly slap the paint sample as water jets spray and ‘Arizona dirt’ replicates the harsh and abrasive real world.” Bit deep on that last note there, Nissan: not sure a miniature car wash can erase the harshness of 2017…

Obviously, the little 370Z you see above is only for comedic purposes. Nissan uses rectangular plates finished in a range of glosses to test it.
