Porsche has built a one-off Sally Carrera from Cars
Because what all parents needed was more Pixar in their lives
If you don’t recognise what this is immediately, then congratulations! Well done on avoiding falling into the actual parent trap – becoming parents in the first place. But if you, like us, are a parent, and Pixar’s Cars has already invaded every aspect of your life... hey, at least it’s not Frozen, right?
Being parents, of course, you’re already sleep-deprived, on your last nerve and wondering when we’re going to get to the point, so we’ll put you out of (at least some of) your misery by saying that it is what it looks like: a real Porsche Carrera, styled to look like Sally Carrera.
If you’ve sat through as many Cars matinees as we think you have, you’ve wondered many things. Why does that minivan at the start have a mattress on the roof, when all vehicles sleep on their wheels? Why, when the lost couple get to Radiator Springs and feel afraid for their safety, do they lock their doors? Why do they have doors, and why would they ever be unlocked in the first place if that’s the only thing protecting their internal organs?
What you likely haven’t wondered about is whether Porsche should build a real-life, road-legal version of Sally Carrera, complete with a pinstripe tattoo, 996 Turbo-style wheels and custom metallic blue paint. But it has – a one-off, with a matching Porsche Design watch, that Sotheby’s will auction off for charity at Monterey Car Week.
And despite the fact that dear Sally will probably be a garage queen, she actually has pretty decent spec – Porsche based the build on its 911 GTS (generally shorthand for the sweet spot in any Porsche model) and fitted old-school-cool houndstooth upholstery and Sally-coloured accents throughout the cabin. But then fitted a ‘Kachow’ mode to the steering wheel. Which is very much not Sally’s catchphrase.
But, much like Bob Ross paintings and your second kid, life is full of happy little accidents, isn’t it? And if so, congratulations!
