Watch these Ford Mustangs get VERY sideways

Two Formula Drift Mustang RTRs get put through their paces

Published: 16 Apr 2018

There’s drifting, and then there’s drifting. The latter involves serious angles, plumes of tyre smoke and purpose-built cars with ludicrously powerful engines and suspension like you’ve never seen before.

Cars like the twin-turbocharged Ferrari 599 that burnt to a yellow, Pininfarina-styled crisp at the Long Beach round of this year’s Formula Drift season a couple of weeks ago. And cars like these two Mustang RTRs, which you absolutely must watch – right this very second, and with the volume turned right the way up – get exceptionally sideways (sometimes on three wheels…) at what looks like the Virginia International Raceway.

Drivers Vaugh Gittin Jr. and Chelsea DeNofa are responsible for obtaining such ludicrous angles from these Mustangs, which have been updated for this season with the roadcar’s new face. Ford hasn’t released any technical details, so we’re guessing they use the same 1000-odd bhp NASCAR V8 as last year’s car. Adequate, no?
