Video: take a 360-degree ride on an IndyCar crossing the Golden Gate Bridge

Open-wheelers cross San Fran bridge in memory of Justin Wilson

Published: 15 Oct 2015

A while back, we gave you the opportunity to digitally cling yourself onto the roof of a Mercedes SLS Black Series as Stig vaporised its tyres around the TG track.

The idea was later adopted by none other than Lewis Hamilton, making it the first and last time TG will be quicker on the draw than the British world champ. But now GoPro, in typical GoPro style, have taken it to the next level.

In tribute to Justin Wilson – who tragically died of a serious head injury after being hit with debris in the Pocono IndyCar 500 race in August – IndyCar drivers Josef Newgarden, Marco Andretti, Graham Rahal and Will Power took part in a procession across the Golden Gate Bridge, to honour the memory the British seven-time race winner.

They also strapped many GoPros to the back of their cars, recording pretty much every angle of the open-wheel beasts as they ventured over San Fran’s iconic big red bridge.

Now, seeing the cars in a real-world environment is quite the spectacle, but one made even more special by the epic noise, and the fact Andretti lead the procession in Wilson’s Honda.

To get the full 360 experience, watch the video in Google Chrome or, if you have one, on a fancy-pants smartphone.

If you’re on desktop, drag your way around the screen with your mouse to direct the camera. Up, down, left, right - anywhere you like, really. Just enjoy the view and the noise.

Mobile viewers, simply rotate your phone round and round, up and down until you feel a bit sick… or people look at you strangely.
