Video: drifting has never looked this good

If you’re anything like us, no doubt you’ve fallen down the Best Motoring YouTube hole. If not, fatefully type those two words into the Tubes of You and we’ll see you sometime next week. 

They’re videos famed for their Gran-Turismo-made-real races, overexcited Nomex-clad Japanese racing drivers and awesomely nerdy pedal cams. 

But there was always one winding mountain road they’d spear cars up sideways and leave us wondering where and what it was. Well, it’s the Gunsai touge. Not an actual mountain road, rather a collection of bicycle tracks in the Gunma Prefecture stitched together to make a wiggly and wonderful old school drift track.  

Since the Best Motoring days, it’s laid dormant. Until recently, when some of Japan’s coolest drift cars and handiest sidewaysmen gathered together for a special video.

With trick camera gimbals, beautiful lenses and cool talent (350hp four-door R32 Skylines, silly S13 Silvias and pretty much every cool drift chassis on the planet) all firing themselves between the trees at silly speeds, it’s bloody cool to watch. 

Drifting has always been a beautiful ballet and balancing act of throttle inputs and steering lock. But when you throw decent production values into the mix, you make art. So check it out for yourself above.
