Video: is this the coolest milk run ever?

Watch Loren Healy take his Ultra4 buggy for a rather committed trip to the shops

Published: 29 Jun 2016

We’ve all been there. You wake up on a Saturday morning excited to have your Cookie Crisp washed down with Nesquik breakfast, but open the fridge to find that you've run out of the one vital ingredient: milk. Doh.

The normal response would involve a quick walk/drive/panicked jog to the shops. Not so for off-road racer Loren Healy.

Instead of getting into a humble hatchback, he fired up his 800bhp Ultra4 buggy and took a long and destructive detour to the shops. Because, why wouldn’t you?

Ultra4 buggies are some of the most advanced and capable off-road racers on the planet. Specifically designed for the torturous King of The Hammers event. That's an enduro slog where you have to complete a 165-mile course in less than 14 hours. Sounds easy. It isn’t. It’s the car equivalent of an ultra ironman where purpose-built buggies scramble over some of California’s toughest landscape in as little time as possible.

From rock crawling to high-speed desert running, these unlimited class racers are built to deal with pretty much anything planet Earth can throw at it. Perfect for the milk run then.

As you can see in the video above, Loren impatiently drives []through[] his garage doors. Once on the move, he magically turns the local scenery into one big skatepark – jumping off rocks, clambering up cliff faces and freefalling into sand dunes.

It looks bloody good fun. But also quite tiring. Still, not a bad way to start the morning, eh?
