Robert Kubica injures leg in fall

Pity poor Kubica. The former Renault F1 star's return to the top rank of racing has suffered a setback after he injured his right leg.

Kubica apparently slipped on a patch of ice near his home in Italy and damaged his leg - the same leg he injured during his horrific rally smash last year - forcing a return to hospital.

Rumours are he's fractured his right tibia and will need a metal screw inserted above his ankle, followed by a long and itchy spell in plaster. Ouch.

It caps a dismal period for the Pole. He missed the entire 2011 F1 season following a horrific crash during the first stage of the Ronde di Andora rally in February driving a Super 2000 Skoda Fabia.

He hit a crash barrier and partially severed his right forearm, along with fracturing his right elbow, shoulder and leg.

Despite this, he still hopes to make a return to F1, even though Lotus Renault has now signed Romain Grosjean and of course, Kimi Raikkonen. There were even rumours of a move to Ferrari in 2013...
