Ride onboard Monster Tajima’s 660bhp GT86

The video below is the result of a 62 year-old certified petrolhead let loose around the Toyota GT 86 and allowed to indulge his most deranged motoring passions. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Monster Sport's 660bhp ‘Super 86'.

The car has been built by Nobuhiro ‘Monster' Tajima's motorsport outfit, and the video below shows onboard footage of this spaceframed monster tackling a Japanese dirt course earlier this month. It is dusty, slidey and quite crackly. Nice.

Some of you might be thinking, ‘hang on, is this Monster's new Pikes Peak challenger?' It would certainly seem so. After all, in the same week we got full technical details of Peugeot's gloriously bonkers T16 208 - with its rather delectable 875bhp - it might seem timely. Alas, the Pikes Peak competitor list, as of 19 April, still has Tajima-san listed as running the electric ‘e-runner'.

Let us hope then, there is a last minute changing of the guard, and this delightful ‘Super 86' is used instead. Because underneath that steel space frame and carbon/Kevlar composite bodywork sits a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine developing some 660bhp, a six-speed sequential gearbox, a mechanical multi-plate differential and four-wheel-drive. Oh, and let's not forget the most important addition to any car: a humongous rear wing.

All in, the car weighs around 1080kg - "not including the driver" - so it's a little off the mighty Pug's 875kg featherweight, but still...it's the most bonkers GT 86 we've ever seen.
