Monster Tajima on Pikes Peak

Published: 11 Aug 2010

Mountain racing is scary. Throw in an 897bhp modified Suzuki SX4 and a 60 year-old driver, and you have the ingredients for cooking up Total Disaster.

Not, however, if said sexagenarian is Pikes Peak legend Nobuhiro ‘Monster' Tajima - five time Pikes Peak hill-climb champion and the fastest man up the mountain.

In 2007 Tajima beat the record set by Rod Millen by three seconds, and this year came top of the ‘Unlimited' class (beating Millen's son Rhys, by nearly a minute). Unlimited class you say? Yes. A class with absolutely no restrictions on power, weight or insanity.

Tajima clearly likes driving up this little mountain pass in Colorado. The proof? 11 minutes of world-class bumper-cam hoonage.

Sit back, turn up your speakers, and marvel in the majesty of the ‘Monster' making some metallic mayhem.
