The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec has all of the wing

Hyundai has announced its aim to break a few (admittedly rather niche) records at the 102nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June, and these are the cars that will take on the challenge. You want wing? These Ioniq 5 Ns have certainly got it.

The two modified 5 Ns that you see above are apparently Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec cars, and the record they’ll be trying to break at Pikes Peak is the fastest time for an ‘Electric Modified SUV/Crossover’.

Hyundai will also bring two completely standard Ioniq 5 Ns, with the aim of securing the ‘Electric Production SUV/Crossover’ record over the 12.42-mile course. But it’s the winged things that you really want to know about, isn’t it?

Well, having been unveiled at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, we can tell you that underneath they’re actually not hugely different to the standard car. They get the same motors and the same 84kWh battery, although the wick has been turned up on the rear axle to up total power from 641bhp to 678bhp.

Hyundai says that it wanted to “highlight the production-spec Ioniq 5 N’s strengths without fundamentally altering the car”, although we’d say the racy bodykit and humongous wings are probably quite fundamental.

There’s also new three-way adjustable dampers, motorsport-spec brakes, 18in 11J forged racing wheels, slick tyres, a Recaro race seat, a Sabelt six-point harness, a Pikes Peak-spec roll cage and an EV fire suppression system. Oh, and Hyundai has fitted a modified speaker that pumps out the ‘N Active Sound+’ at over 120 dB to avoid the need for the sirens that electric racers usually have to run at Pikes Peak. Still, apart from all of that they’re basically standard.

The two Time Attack cars will be driven by four-time Pikes Peak winner Robin Shute and Hyundai Motorsport WRC driver Dani Sordo.
