US tuner creates carbon bodykit for those who reckon the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a little tame
Road-legal track warrior gets even more bonkers with the addition of a whole heap of carbon fibre
Clearly, Porsche put hardly any effort in honing the 992-gen Porsche 911 GT3 RS, because US tuner 9 Design reckons there was a a fair bit left on the table.
Welcome then, to the company's full carbon fibre bodykit for one of the finest sportscars ever built. Yes, 9 Design has replaced every single bit of aero-enhancing exterior plastic on the GT3 RS with carbon fibre.
Now, we’re told that these bits “seamlessly infuse the desired lightweight characteristics sought by owners all while preserving the vehicle's original styling", and we’re sure they do. But if you’re using your car on track as often as possible (and if you bought a GT3 RS, you should be) then plastic is surely the best bet given it’s cheap (ish) to replace in case of a whoopsie.
And oh boy the carbon kit isn’t cheap. Tuner 9 Design says the cost of the full conversion is a fraction under $60,000 (around £47,000).
It doesn’t actually admit exactly how much weight is saved by the carbon either, but we can tell you that the kit includes replacements for the front bumper insert, the front lip, the side skirts, the intakes just ahead of the rear wheels, the floor, the rear diffuser, the bonnet inserts, the roof rail things, the wing tips on either end of that giant swan-neck and the mirror caps. Phew.
Worth the fairly hefty outlay on top of a standard £200k (with options) GT3 RS?
