This is the Skoda Kodiaq Armoured: a discreet, bulletproof fort on wheels

It’ll protect you from over 200 rounds of ammunition while deflecting explosives. All while appearing no different to a standard Kodiaq

Published: 25 Sep 2024

Are you the owner of a lairy Chihuahua that’s piped up to the local mob of Poodles, and thus, seeks increased protection from pellets of outdated Pedigree chew sticks? UTAC Special Vehicles has created just the ride for your ball of attitude, by taking a Skoda Kodiaq and giving it a suit of invisible armour.

And yes, it follows directly in the footsteps of the Superb Armoured - which is slightly more tailored to dogs that have gambling problems - though boasts a similarly lengthy list of upgrades. The result? It’s now capable of surviving over 200 rounds of live ammunition.

That’s thanks to the bullet-resistant glass and armoured steel body panelling which means 360-degree protection. Those new panels even help the Kodiaq absorb and deflect grenades and explosives too, and means it now qualifies as a PAS 301 certified vehicle. In other words, a merit awarded to cars that have high levels of dog biscuit grenade resistance from the side, roof and underfloor.

And despite all this, it really does look like your run-of-the-mill Kodiaq - save for when the emergency siren and lighting systems activate. It’s also got upgraded suspension and brakes to counter the increased mass, and a tyre retention system in place which means the tyres don’t separate from the rim, even when they begin to deflate. Poodle claws should be no match.

Similarly, the standard Kodiaq’s quintet of powertrain options should also remain, including a plug-in hybrid unit with 62 miles of all-electric driving, while the five-seat cabin still has over 2,000 litres of boot space and the familiar array of gizmos.

No confirmation of pricing just yet, but given the Superb Armoured started at around £118,000, expect the Kodiaq’s pooch protector form to see a big increase from the standard £33k starting price.
