Novitec's modified Rolls-Royce Dawn is quite lovely

Is it bad that we like this 676bhp modified drop-top as much as we do?

Published: 14 Sep 2016

Quite often when an aftermarket tuning house gets hold of an exotic car, a beautiful swan is very artfully and expensively turned into an ugly duckling. But while this Novitec Spofec Rolls-Royce Dawn might be a heck of a mouthful, it’s not exactly bad-looking, is it? Subtle modifications, purposeful stance... quite nice indeed. Minus the orange seats, naturally, but luckily they’re not compulsory. The press video is oddly relaxing, too.

The suspension has been lowered by 40mm, but Spofec says that it automatically reverts back to its original ride height once you hit 87mph (140kph). There are new exhaust parts and a new N-Tronic ECU device, which increase power to 676bhp (up from 563bhp) and help to cut the 0-60mph time down to 4.6 seconds; 0.3 seconds quicker than a standard Dawn. Those wheels are 22in, and house enormous new ‘high-performance’ carbon ceramic brakes that are 38kg lighter than the ones they replace.

We’re told that the ‘visual design accents’ – the bumpers and side skirts to you and me – don’t drastically change the fundamentals of the Dawn, and they look fairly easy to retro-fit if you fancy doing this to your own Rolls. There’s currently no word from Spofec on whether you can or not, and there’s also no mention of price. But if you need to know the price, you probably can’t afford it.
