Novitec has given the McLaren GT almost 700bhp

The German tuner has turned its hand to Woking’s grand tourer

Published: 06 Aug 2020

The McLaren GT’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine is really rather special. With 612bhp and 465lb ft of torque on tap, Woking’s grand tourer will hit 62mph from a standstill in 3.2 seconds and will run on to a top speed of 203mph.

Many people (including us, guilty) have questioned whether the GT really is a genuine GT, but German tuner Novitec just doesn’t care about your reservations.

We know this because Novitec’s new upgrade package for the GT includes sport springs that drop the ride height by 25mm as well as an aero-optimised carbon fibre body kit, a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system and an ECU remap that can provide as much as 697bhp and 526lb ft of torque. If it wasn’t before, this is definitely a supercar now.

The power and aero upgrades allow the mid-engined McLaren to reach 62mph in 3.0 seconds flat and give it a new top speed of 207mph, whilst also apparently improving cooling to the engine and front brakes.

The bare carbon bits look rather nice too, don’t they? And what do we think of the forged Vossen wheels? Those are 20s on the front and 21s at the back by the way.

That’s about it folks, although Novitec also says it’ll customise the interior of your GT in just about any colour of leather or Alcantara. Like it?
