Look at these matt painted BMW i8s
Special edition, black and yellow i8s get matt paint and special trim
The new 5 Series Estate isn’t the only thing BMW’s bringing to this year’s Geneva motor show. It doesn’t want you to forget that the rather excellent BMW i8 exists, so alongside the facelifted 4 Series and new 5 Series Estate, it’ll also be showing a special edition of our 2014 Car of The Year. That’s right, another one.
Called the i8 Prontonic Frozen Black Edition, this i8 is, effectively, a matt black i8 with some bespoke interior trim. A Protonic Frozen Yellow i8 follows later this year. We’ve always thought the i8 works better in darker colours, despite its fancy doors and supercar styling, so we’d go for the black one. Or a regular, non-matt i8 for, in all likelihood, substantially less cash (if you want your i8 in Java Green, Speed Yellow, or Solar Orange, that’ll be £5,495).
Should you need reminding, the i8 is the flagship of BMW’s i line – a petrol-electric sports car with a 231bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder powering the rear-wheels, and a 131bhp electric motor powering the fronts. It has a carbon tub, and wears mostly thermoplastic bodywork. Yours for £104,605. Before pricey paint...
