The new Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid has 690bhp

Stuttgart’s new range-topping plug-in hybrid saloon has GT2 RS power. Sheesh

Published: 19 Oct 2020

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is mind-bendingly quick – largely thanks to its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat six that produces a frankly terrifying 690bhp.

Turns out, Porsche will sell you the same amount of power in an altogether different format. Welcome, Internet, to the new 690bhp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. Crikey.

The Panamera range was updated back in August (read about that by clicking these blue words) and shortly after we drove the non-hybrid Turbo S, complete with its 621bhp twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8. The Turbo S E-Hybrid is back to take its place as the range-topping Panamera.

The PTSEH and PTSEHST (five Internet points for working that one out) are also powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, but here it’s complemented by a 134bhp electric motor that’s integrated into the eight-speed PDK gearbox. Said electric motor is then connected to a 17.9kWh battery (up from 14.1kWh in the previous gen) for an all-electric range of up to 31-miles. Oh, and for reference – the old Turbo S E-Hybrid made do with only 671bhp.

Fancy some more stats? The 0-62mph sprint takes 3.2 seconds (vs 3.1 for the non-plug-in Turbo S) and it’ll hit a top speed of 196mph. Pair that with the WLTP figures of 94.6mpg and 69g/km of CO2 and this thing looks mighty.

As it’s the flagship, the Turbo S E-Hybrid also comes with all of the Panamera’s chassis and control systems as standard. That means there’s Porsche’s electric roll stabilisation system as well as Torque Vectoring Plus, rear-wheel steering and ceramic brakes. No word on how much this thing weighs yet.

With its introduction also comes three new wheel designs and two new paint colours that we’re particularly excited about – Cherry Metallic and Truffle Brown Metallic. Mmmmm – we’ll take a brown Turbo S E-Hybrid in Sport Turismo form, cheers Porsche.

The price? Well, the saloon will start at £140,130 in the UK, with the Sport Turismo estate beginning at £142,280. Oh, and Porsche has also announced that there’ll be a new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid on top of the 4S E-Hybrid we already knew about. That’ll get a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 connected to the electric motor for a total output of 456bhp, with prices starting at just under £84,000.
