How to spec a BMW 7-Series

In the market for BMW's big limo? Tick these option boxes...

Published: 28 Apr 2016

Attention CEOs. If you’re in the market for a long-wheelbase limo, you could do a lot worse than the BMW 7-Series. But as with every car, there are some bits of kit you should specify, and some you probably should not. This is our ideal 7-Series spec – money no object. Have a play with BMW's configurator here and if you disagree, tell us why and share your own in the comments.

Model: 740Ld xDrive

The new six-cylinder diesel is a superb engine. Quiet, refined, frugal and quick. Get the 40d over the 30 so your chauffeur isn’t completely out-dragged by young upstarts in Jag XJs. Go LWD for an extra 140mm of length. Because you won’t be driving.

Trim: SE

Avoid all things M-Sport. It does not fit with the 7’s character and adds a load of body-styling that makes it look a bit silly.

Exterior: Magellan Grey, 20” W-spoke style 646 alloys (£1,250)

Interior: Cashmere Beige/Black Merino Full Leather - BMW Ind. (£5,375), Piano Black trim (£995)

We concede that this bit is personal preference. Unless you get the red leather, which is an incorrect style choice in such a car.
