Ford Fiesta Mountune news - Waiting for the Fiesta ST? - 2009

Published: 16 Mar 2009

With Ford staying curiously schtum about the possibility of a new Fiesta ST - so expect that to be ages off - you can trust Mountune to step in and give us a hotter version of the excellent new city car.

Mountune, Ford’s official European tuning arm known Stateside as Roush, did sterling work with the last generation, and now it has warmed up the new Zetec S into something resembling a hot hatch. A warm hatch, at least.

A high-flow induction system, sports exhaust and ECU tweaks see power rise from 118bhp to a respectable 140bhp – still well short of 189bhp Vauxhall Corsa VXR, but a fair match for the Renault Clio 138.

It’ll happily outpace the Clio, though – the Mountune Fiesta will hit 60mph in 7.9 seconds, a full two seconds quicker than the standard model and as fast as the last-gen Fiesta ST, despite being 8bhp down on power.

If you need a bit more visual punch from your Fiesta, Mountune also offer the option a full bodykit and a set of love-em-or-hate-em yellow-rimmed alloys. Hmm...

The best bit, though, is that the Mountune upgrades – both mechanical and visual – are available through the Ford dealer network and won’t invalidate your original warranty.

Until a proper hot new Fiesta ST turns up – and now we’ve seen the Alfa MiTo GTA, we won’t settle for less than 200bhp, Ford – this could be your best bet.
