Got wood? Then carve a Land Cruiser sculpture
This incredible video really puts the car in carpentry
If there’s something that we're learning through self-isolation, it’s that when people have a lot of time on their hands, they can really flex their creative muscles. Or actual muscles, if you’re one of those people competing in an Instagram press up challenge.
Here’s a perfect example, courtesy of a woodworker in Vietnam. They've dropped a YouTube timelapse video of them carving an incredibly detailed and realistic 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser. And given it’s shot past 20million views in a week, it proves that we’re not the only ones that have fallen for this sort of splintery hex.
Using a couple of planks of wood, they go to town with jigsaws, chisels and sanders to replicate a freakily detailed replica of Toyota’s latest variant of its legendary go-anywhere, do-anything off-road motor. But it's the intricate elements that have us hooked; the incredibly fiddly individual tyre tread patterns, hand-chiselled badging, sculpted bodywork and meticulous roof rails. It’s bloody fantastic. And makes TG’s GCSE woodworking project – a balsa wood doorstop – look a bit pony.
This isn’t the first car to be uploaded to the Woodworking Art YouTube channel, either. As they’ve also had a crack at building a Bugatti Chiron and President Trump's "Beast" Cadillac state car out of a single, solid block of wood. So if you’ve got time to kill, this is a YouTube rabbit hole worth falling down.
