Exclusive: watch Vaughn Gittin Jr drift a Mustang at Goodwood

Spend two minutes watching Vaughn’s 750bhp ‘Stang go a bit nuts at 2017 FoS

It appears Vaughn Gittin Jr is incapable of driving in a straight line. A bit like Mad Mike. Not too much of a problem, mind, when you have a modified, 750bhp Ford Mustang at your disposal; a car equally happy to oblige in the dark art of sideways.

Welcome everyone, to just under two minutes of drift-based mayhem at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. In this exclusive video, Mr Gittin Jr – who describes himself as a professional ‘fun-haver’ - showcases just how he achieved quite a bit of success in Formula Drift.

He won his first FD title way back in 2010, took the ‘Ace Driver of the Decade’ in 2013, won the World Drift Series three times on the bounce (2011-2013), and beat Japan way back in 2005 in a D1 GP event – the first American to have done so.

He’s not all sideways, mind. He’s competed in NASCAR, raced at the King of the Hammers (avid watchers of Top Gear will know just how tough this really is), and even did a stint in Trans AM racing a couple of years ago.

So he knows his way around a corner. Now hit play above to see what happens when you unleash a supercharged, 750bhp V8-engined Mustang (with carbon fibre bits and fully adjustable suspension), on an unsuspecting Goodwood Festival of Speed crowd.
