The Vision X shows Skoda’s new weeny SUV
Well, in sketch form, anyway. Skoda’s Juke and Arona rival is on its way
This is the Skoda Vision X. It’s a small hybrid SUV concept that we’ll see at next month’s Geneva motor show.
Yep, hybrid. Skoda’s not given any real details of its powertrain, but we'd wager it’s some kind of tiddly petrol engine mated to an electric motor, the two pairing up to provide all-wheel drive.
What’s probably more important – for now – is the way it looks. Because more likely than not, this is what Skoda’s rival to the Seat Arona, Nissan Juke and any of the 14,036 other small crossovers will look like when it launches next year.
That probably won’t have a panoramic glass roof and 20in wheels as standard, like the car in these sketches is adorned with, but the two-tone colour scheme and shiny roof rails – the official design language of the small crossover – are almost certain to stay.
The production car is likely to offer more conventional powertrains, too, but giving the Vision X concept a hybrid setup is an interesting move. As Audi and Volkswagen shout about electrification in their cars, it’s nice to see the tech filtering down to the VW Group’s other brands.
It’ll sit below the Skoda Karoq and Skoda Kodiaq SUVs when it launches, with another name beginning with K, we’d suspect.
Excited? Or are there enough small crossovers on sale now?
