Infiniti’s Vision GT concept is real

Published: 29 Apr 2015

When we showed you the abundant swoops and slashes of Infiniti's Vision GT concept last year, we asked if we could we see a real one.

Seems someone was listening, because a real-life version has been shown off at an Infiniti design event held at the Shanghai motor show.

Okay, so what we wanted was a version with number plates, primed and ready to fill the gaping hole the Lexus LFA left in our lives when the last one furiously revved off the production line.

What we have here is a static display car, but the fact it has made it out of the digital realm of Gran Turismo and into real, touchable materials ought to be a good start.

Naturally, with its debut on a stage as opposed to a race track, there's no hyperbole about its driving experience or the ferocity of its 4.5-litre V8 petrol-electric hybrid system to share with you. There is, though, an awful lot of what we shall eloquently refer to as ‘design speak'.

For instance, the Vision GT project instigated a competition across Infiniti's international design teams, its Beijing studio victorious with what you see here. Fine. But it's when "the character lines uninhibitedly flowing through the car reflect the dynamism of China" that we start to struggle.

Other highlights involve handcrafted artistry weaving through the car, which also "appears ready to pounce", naturally. All we know and care about is that this is Infiniti's most exciting design by a long chalk, and a schoolboy-pleasing supercar would do a heck of a lot to drum up interest for its Merc and BMW rivalling saloons.

You've made one Infiniti. And we like it. Now how about popping that V8 in there and putting the intricacies of its aerodynamic addenda to the test, too?
