Rock bottom: Stone Simulator is exactly what it sounds like, and it now has multiplayer
Live as an inanimate object, compete for leaderboard rankings
Allow us to describe Stone Simulator for you: you are a stone in a picturesque woodland environment, and you do exactly what a stone does. You sit there, utterly inanimate, for absolutely ages.
Perhaps it’s a witty comment about the slew of over-ambitious, under-baked, creatively bereft titles that have found their way onto our storage drives in recent years. Maybe developer STF Games simply didn’t feel like animating anything. Whatever the case, what we have here is one of the most curious indie, er, 'games' of 2025.
Apparently not satiated by that base level of absurdity, the studio’s recently added multiplayer. So now you and your fellow players can occupy the same space in real time, just sitting there, not doing anything at all, for absolutely ages, together.
There’s even a leaderboard. Those who are prepared to remain there as a rock for the longest will shoot up the rankings, proudly demonstrating their patience, zen-like spirit and wanton disregard for energy bills for the rest of the community to see and become envious of.
Stone Simulator is available now on Steam for PC, and it’s currently discounted from its regular price of £2.49 to the princely sum of £1.79. Do bear in mind though, and we’re not sure if we’ve made this clear enough yet: it’s literally just watching a rock do nothing in the woods.
