Watch out, Mansory has built a 986bhp Merc S63 Coupe

From the depths of Switzerland comes a two-door S-Class, modified to Veyron levels of performance

TG’s office thesaurus lists many synonyms for the word ‘flabbergasted’. Shocked. Confounded. Staggered. But there is one it doesn’t list that immediately springs to mind at this moment: woah.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is Swiss tuning firm Mansory’s offering for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. It is 1,000 metric horsepowers of carbon fibre excess. It is a bludgeoning assault on the notion of restraint. It is the ‘Black Edition’ S63.

Don’t confuse it with AMG’s very own ‘Black Series’ cars. Not that you will, because Mansory’s Black Edition S63 comes with a full carbon fibre body: everything from that snow-plough front, the bloated side sills, new rear bumper and monster wing. Less of the barely-contained-racecar, more massive-punch-in-the-face.

There are many air scoops and vents and control blades to provide downforce and cool the drivetrain, which we suspect will require significant cooling. It’s a modified version of the S63’s 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8. In ‘standard’ AMG trim, the S63 Coupe makes 577bhp and 664lb ft of torque.

In this Mansory version, however, things have become rather more serious. The Black Edition claims 1,000PS – or 986bhp – which points to the ‘M1000’ pack Mansory unveiled for the S63 saloon at the tail end of last year. The engine therefore gets new rods, a new crank, new turbos and compressors, and many more bits and bobs.

So along with that 986bhp, it also boasts 1,032lb ft of torque. No performance figures for the Black Edition Coupe are available, but in Mansory’s modified S63 saloon, 0-62mph takes just 3.2 seconds, and a limited top speed of 186mph.

“Six examples of the Mercedes AMG S63 Coupe have been further refined by Mansory,” says, um, Mansory, “to become a Super Benz.”

Super Benz indeed. It’ll be unveiled at Frankfurt next week. Admit it though: the small, childlike part of your cerebrum secretly adores this Black Edition S63, doesn’t it?
