The vote is in: *this* is Williams’ 2023 Gulf livery
And it’ll be showcased at Goodwood this weekend ahead of its three-stint in the autumn
‘Tis the season of special liveries, apparently. Days after celebrating its 800th grand prix with a Union Jack-adorned car at the British GP, Williams has revealed the Gulf colours it’ll run for a trio of races later this year.
Back in May fans were presented with four designs to choose from, and three rounds of voting and 180,000 ballots later, the car above - dubbed ‘Bolder than Bold’ - is your winner.
It beat the ‘Heritage’ design in the final head-to-head by 51.9 per cent to 48.1, a ratio all too familiar with Brits on all parts of the political spectrum.
Anyway, the livery will be displayed on the team’s FW45 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, and it’ll be used at the Singapore, Japan and Qatar grands prix in September and October.
“This competition was an incredible opportunity for our fans to actively engage and shape the visual identity of our team,” said team principal James Vowles. “The winning design encapsulates the essence of the Gulf and Williams Racing partnership, reflecting on the past but building on our future. This livery will create a defining moment when it takes to the track later in the season.”
Last weekend McLaren brought back its iconic chrome as a one-off for Silverstone, having run a Triple Crown themed car at Monaco and Spain a couple of months back.
And Red Bull ran the first of three special paint jobs (we say paint, they’re vinyl stickers these days aren’t they?) at the Miami Grand Prix, with two more to come in Austin and Las Vegas.
Right: pick a team, pick a theme, and pitch us your special-occasion liveries below. Your time starts… now.
