Ford Mondeo news - Mondeo goes Eco - 2009
OK, it's not quite as exciting as the Citroen GT tackling the Goodwood hillclimb, but it's worthy news nonetheless: Ford has announced the introduction of its greenest Mondeo yet, the Econetic.
Powered by Ford's 2.0-litre turbodiesel putting out a modest 113bhp, the Mondeo Econetic coughs out a mere 139g/km of CO2 - which means it qualifies for £120 ‘Band E' annual road tax - and returns a calculated 54.3mpg on the combined cycle.
As we said, a bit dull, but you can't argue with those economy and emissions figures. The Mondeo Econetic achieves its frugality through low rolling resistance tyres, long gearing and aero trickery including a rear spoiler, revised suspension and air deflectors.
The Mondeo Econetic is on sale now, with prices starting at £20,795. There you go - some proper grown-up car news for you. We're off for a quick lie-down to recover from the shock.
