The first Nissan Juke-R is ready

Published: 18 Oct 2012

Well slap our heads and call us Terence; Nissan's actually stood by its promise to sell the utterly ridiculous GT-R-based Juke-R. And it's even more powerful than the one Top Gear got its hands on in January.

545. That's how many horsepowers the mysterious "high-profile and well-respected member of Dubai society" will have to play with when Juke-R # 001 lands on his drive. That's 60 more than the Juke-R we drove, which brings it up to "proper" GT-R performance specs: 0-62mph takes 3.0 seconds and it tops out at a limited 170mph (though the GT-R can get to 196mph).

And it's not just the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 that's changed - its builders, RML (them of the Deltawing, WTCC Chevrolet Cruze racers and Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 GT), had to massage the concept a bit before it was ready for market. That meant refining the GT-R's drivetrain even more for its compact new home, and adding an FIA-spec roll cage.

Outside, the concept's had a bit of a design going-over, too. The pencilcases at Nissan Design Europe added more definition to the front bumper, and new carbon trim on the front and rear cooling vents and rear diffuser.

NDE's Digital Team Manager Darryl Scriven says: "This [is] normally a very long process using full size models in clay. However, we managed to condense the development time using full-size viewing on our new 3D-ready projector and power wall, maintaining a fully digital process."

Nissan wouldn't tell us how many other people have laid down some folding, but they have promised that Juke-R #002 is well underway. Exact prices are similarly mysterious, but we're told they start at £400,000 and precise costs depend on the specification requested by each buyer.

Rather not exchange nearly half a million quid for a Juke-R but still fancy a spin? Download mobile racing sim Asphalt 7: Heat onto your electronic rectangle - it's the only game that features it.

Does anyone else think that the new front end looks like a dying Pacman ghost?
