This one-off Porsche 718 Spyder RS pays tribute to a former Panamericana Rally hero
Lots of sponsorship logos and Carmine Red used too. And guess what? It could be yours
Remember when a Porsche 550 Spyder finished the gruelling 3,000-kilometre Carrera Panamericana Mexico rally in third place back in 1954, both giving Porsche motorsport credibility and popularising the ‘Carrera’ name for years to come? No, we suspect you’re probably a bit young for that.
In any case Porsche is celebrating 70 years since its achievement with this one-off 718 Spyder RS, putting immense effort and creativity into naming it… the ‘Panamericana Special’.
'Cenenaire Silver' (silver) paint has been applied to all the aero-focused body panels, like the carbon body kit, and extends through to the NACA ducts, air intakes and the Gurney Flap rear wing. You also get magnesium wheels hiding ceramic brakes.
The mostly black cabin gets bits of leather in high-contact areas, a 'Carmine Red' (um, red) steering wheel and bucket seats, and embroidered badging on the headrests. Elsewhere, there are bespoke floor mats and a fully integrated watch mount.
One very cool feature is the revised and illuminated door sills, which show a Mexican flag on the driver’s side and the silhouette of a 550 on the passenger’s side. Yeah, we agree, all 718 Spyders should come with this as standard.
Price? That actually depends on you, because the Panamericana Special will be auctioned off later this year, with proceeds then going to non-profit charities across Latin America.
