The new Jaguar XF Sportbrake is nearly here
Second-gen XF estate shows its, um, roof ahead of a summer launch. SVR it, Jag
Get ready for your new estate car hero. Potentially, anyway. Jaguar has confirmed that it will reveal a new XF Sportbrake in the summer.
After confirming its existence at last year's Paris motor show, Jaguar has now given us a sneak preview via this teasing overhead shot, as well as a line drawing on Wimbledon's centre court.
Jags do a bit of official duty at Wimbledon each year, if you'd not guessed. And given that's in the summer, perhaps Britain's premier tennis tournament yield our first glimpse of the mk2 Sportbrake.
"It will bring new levels of practicality to the range without sacrificing the dynamic design and agile handling our customers expect," says Jag's design boss, Ian Callum.
The previous one was quite a looker, too, and a fine thing to drive. This new one will sit on the same platform as the recently refreshed XF - and, therefore, the new XE - using Jaguar's fancy, lighter aluminium base to good effect, likely cutting weight over the last car.
Engines? There will be some, a range of petrol and diesel variants of four and six cylinders. Naturally, the one you're most looking forward to will be a snarling, supercharged V8 with a few choice letters on the back.
Though the hottest XF saloon you can currently buy is the 380bhp V6, Top Gear is sincerely hoping the new Sportbrake gets the full SVR treatment, replete with the noise and power to sit comfortably in a very interesting corner of Planet Car. We're looking at you, Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS.
More news as we have it. For now, indulge yourself in the images above, and let us know whether a pretty, fast Jaguar estate is your kind of pretty, fast estate...
