The new, extended Cadillac Escalade IQL is over 19ft long
Caddy has supersized the already-very-massive Escalade IQ for ‘more lifestyle space’
‘Murica, the place where ‘bigger means better’, right? It certainly does in Cadillac's version, because despite the standard Escalade IQ already being bigger than Mars, it has now decided what the world needs is an even larger version.
So, welcome an additional consonant and over four inches of extra legroom in the rearmost seats - this is the Cadillac Escalade IQL. We can only assume the L stands for looong.
Largely because it's now over 19ft long. Perhaps IQXXL would have been more appropriate? All of that stretch is in the body, so it still has a 136.2in wheelbase and is 85.3in wide even with its mirrors folded. There's also an inch more headroom in the third row to go with the extra legroom. Luggage space behind that third row is also up from 23.6 to 24.2 cubic feet.
Cadillac says the IQL has been designed "to meet the lifestyle needs of customers who require extra space". We would very much like to meet these customers to see what on earth their lifestyle entails.
Anyway, there isn't a bigger powertrain for the IQL, so you'll only get a 205kWh battery and dual electric motors. That means a piffling 739bhp and 785lb ft of torque. Range is claimed to be up to 460 miles, but that has yet to be made official. Nonetheless, the fully electric Escalades get both rapid charging (recovering 116 miles in 10 minutes) and bi-directional vehicle-to-home charging features, too.
Regardless of the powertrain or one of four trim levels, the cabin’s luxuriousness remains. Opting for the Executive Second Row means much comfort. Think stowable tray tables, 12.6in individual passenger screens, a rear central display, wireless charging pads and two massaging, heated and vented seats with audio options in the headrests. There’s a reason the Escalade is the bus of choice for most A-listers, and now it's got the eco-smarts anyone from Hollyweird can get on board with.
Elsewhere, other Escalade IQ specs apply to the IQL: a 12.2 cubic-foot front boot (big enough for golf clubs), the 24in standard wheels clad in 35in tyres, the Air Ride adaptive suspension and that 55in curved dash display.
Prices for the IQL start from $132,695 (£111,393) – about the same price as a five-bed end-of-terrace house in northern England. Don't forget to build a big enough garage, mind.
