This is it: the new 201bhp fully-electric Kia EV4
Saloon and hatch arrive with up to 391 miles of range and the ability to go from 0-62mph in 7.4s
Two weeks after Kia unveiled pictures of the production-ready EV4, it’s now delivered full spec details for the all-electric hatchback and saloon, while also confirming a UK and European launch in the second half of 2025.
It’ll share the same 400v architecture as the EV3, with two battery choices set to be offered: an 81kWh long-ranger and a 58kWh, umm, less long-ranger. The saloon draws 391 or 267 miles from these, while the hatch drops both down slightly to 367 and 255. A 10-80 per cent recharge will waver between 29 and 31 minutes, and an 11kW onboard charger is supplied for more relaxed refills at yer pad.
A 201bhp front-mounted motor will be the sole option across the lineup. Paired with the smaller battery, you'll get from 0-62mph in 7.4s, or 7.7s with the bigger 81kWh unit. Regardless of which you opt for, the top speed will be limited to 105mph.
Underneath, there's a MacPherson strut front suspension setup with a multi-link rear, plus Kia’s new ‘SFD3’ frequency-responsive damper valves to supposedly reduce noise and vibration.
The EV4 is also Kia’s first car to offer the new ‘Vehicle Smart TV’ pack, which means Netflix, Disney+ and various other streaming apps will be available directly through the infotainment screen. Quite a big infotainment screen too: a 30in mega unit comprising a trio of displays.
There’s even a ‘Rest Mode’ function, which activates the mood lamps and sets the front seats to their most relaxed setting. Combined with the ‘Theatre Mode’ for the mega screen and the optional eight-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound, the EV4 basically renders Cineworld visits obsolete. It’s roomy too: the saloon has 490 litres of luggage space, while the hatchback’s 435 is almost 50 more than the Volkswagen ID.3.
The safety suite includes all manner of things from Highway Driving Assist to Forward Collision Avoidance. There’s also an assistance system called the ‘Driver Package F+’, which uses various cameras and radars to warn you of hazards ahead, plus Direct Grip Detection to tell you when you’re no longer holding the wheel in an appropriately safe manner. And don't worry, you can mute the beeps and bongs with a button on the steering wheel if they get too annoying.
Pricing has yet to be revealed for the EV4, but alongside it, Kia has also previewed the EV2 concept, a B-segment electric SUV, and the PV5, a mid-sized commercial and passenger van.
