Honda has revealed its new 2022 Civic (in saloon form)
Model makes its debut… on gaming streaming service Twitch
Strange times we’re living in. If BMW using a bizarre new social media campaign called “What’s your reason not to change?” to promote its electric iX wasn’t enough, Honda has decided to reveal the new 2022 Civic through live streaming gaming service Twitch.
There’s method behind the madness, though. The previous-gen Civic has been the most popular vehicle with Millennials, Gen Z, and first-time new vehicle buyers in America since its launch in 2015, so choosing a platform popular with this generation makes sense. After all, what else are they going to be doing during these uncertain times?
Here’s what you need to know. The prototype you see pictured above is the 11th generation Civic in saloon form set to go on sale in the US next year, with hatchback and Type R variants set to follow. Honda is yet to reveal which forms will arrive in the UK and Europe.
While noticeably less angular than its predecessor, it retains the low ride height, but Honda says its designers have reworked the upper body by moving the A-pillars forward to improve visibility, with the wing mirrors also moving to the side doors.
The front end has been redesigned with the upper grill offset below the headlights, while at the back, the rear track has been widened. There are also new rear lights and a new aerodynamic lip on the boot lid, for that, er, sporty look.
While Honda has only released illustrations of the interior, its approach appears much the same as the exterior, with a cleaner look, a new digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, and a new nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system sitting atop the dash.
No words from Honda on powertrains just yet, but the manufacturer has previously said it wants all its models sold in Europe to be at least partially electrified by 2022, as we’ve recently seen with the hybrid-only Jazz. Logic would suggest…
What do we reckon, internet?
