
This is the GP1: a new V12-engined, 1,000kg British hypercar with a manual gearbox
Includes: retro looks, a naturally-aspirated 6.6-litre, and a six-speed manual
A British company called Garagisti & Co has today unveiled its first product: welcome the GP1. Though named like a straight-to-DVD racing movie, its aim is to rekindle the mad supercars of the past.
Chiefly because underneath those striking looks lies a new, bespoke, naturally aspirated 6.6-litre V12. A new V12! In 2025!
This engine, developed from scratch by an Italian company called Italtecnica, develops a hearty 789bhp and 516lb ft. So it’s a new Italian V12! In 2025! We’re promised it’ll deliver “a mechanical soundtrack reminiscent of motorsports engines from a bygone era”.
Those feisty Italian horses are sent through a six-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels, to deliver… some performance. Exactly how much, G&C has yet to divulge, but considering the company is targeting a dry weight of 1,000kg, it’ll likely be filed under ‘lots’.
There’s a carbon monocoque at the GP1’s heart which points to some of the weight saving, while other goodies include Brembo brakes, Ohlins suspension, and a body designed by ex-Bugatti and Rimac designer Angel Guerra.
His time at Rimac is most clearly seen from the front of the GP1, while from the A-pillar back, through those rear vents and down to that quad-exhaust is all pure 80s supercar goodness.
Indeed, G&C said Guerra’s design prompted “customers and ambassadors” to see “echoes of the Lancia Stratos Zero, Countach and other Gandini masterpieces” in the GP1’s lines. Lots of aero going on too, of course, including a set of large rear diffusers that apparently give the V12 hypercar proper ‘ground-effect’ performance.
Fairly simple interior: a driver display, raised centre tunnel (to create a ‘twin-cockpit’ style arrangement) upon which lies the gearstick, a few buttons, and nothing else. Even the vents have been done away with, ventilation occurring instead via witchcraft.
Naturally each GP1 one will be bespoke to its owner, and only 25 are being built, hence the price: £2.94m a pop. And we say ‘will be’, because these are just renders – the real car is currently “in the advanced stages of engineering and production”.
Here’s G&C boss Mario Escudero: “What if the golden age of analogue supercars never ended? What if icons like the Countach Evoluzione had sparked a lineage rather than a dead-end? What would the great cars of the ‘80s, ‘90s and early 2000s look like today if they’d evolved with new technology but kept their analogue soul?
