First look: Skoda's new Kodiaq seven-seat SUV

Well, sort of a first look: Skoda teases images of brand new seven-seater

Published: 10 Aug 2016

May we present to you a headlight, a taillight, a wheel and a mirror. They all belong to the brand new Skoda Kodiaq, and you’ll get to see them all together on 1 September when the full, final car will be revealed. Sorry.

The Kodiaq - named after a species of bear that lives on a remote island near Alaska - is Skoda’s first big SUV, one capable of accommodating seven human beings. And one, as you’ll spot from these teaser images, that takes on some of the design cues first seen from the 2016 Geneva Vision S concept SUV. Which is a good thing.

It’ll measure in at around 4.7m long, offer between 720 and 2,065 litres of boot space, and with the front passenger seat folded down, transport items up to 2.9m long.

We’re told those it’ll come with full LED lighting, surround-view cameras, tow-assist, and many connected service-type things.

It’ll also probably come with other things like engines and gearboxes, which is similarly handy for a big SUV. Expect a range of 2.0-litre petrols and a 2.0-litre diesel, most likely, together with manual or DSG ‘boxes. And four-wheel-drive, too. Later on in its life-cycle, expect a hybrid; the Geneva show car came with a 1.4-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and four-wheel drive. There was 222bhp, a 0-62mph time of 7.4secs and up to a claimed 148mpg. The VisionS also managed 30 miles of electric-only driving, Skoda claimed.
