The facelifted Hyundai Bayon loses power and mild hybrid set-up

The facelifted Hyundai Bayon’s UK specs and pricing have been announced. The baby crossover is now only available as a 1.0-litre turbocharged ICE, costing from £22,480.

That's right, Hyundai has done away with the 118bhp engines and all the mild hybrid (MHEV) gubbins – just like it did with the refreshed i20. Now, one 98bhp petrol engine is available, with 127lb ft torque when coupled with a six-speed manual, or 147lb ft when mated to the the seven-speed automatic 'box.

Minimised engine choices aside, the Bayon’s first model refresh is pretty light. The small SUV’s inoffensive styling remains, er, inoffensively stylish. It gets redesigned bumpers at the front and back. The front also incorporates new LED headlights, Hyundai’s Horizon daytime running lights and a new grille mesh design.

There are only three trims now too (the SE Connect has been done away with): Advance, Premium and Ultimate.

The standard Advance spec sees the Bayon get new 16in alloys and a broader choice of paintjobs (nine in total). Inside, there's still two 10.25in front screens equipped with Mapcare, Apple and Android integrated phone mirroring and front USB ports.

A wider cache of safety and driver assist features include cruise control, lane keep assist, rear view camera, forward collision avoidance (FCA) and intelligent speed limit assist.

The Premium trim – starting at £23,880 for the manual – adds bigger wheels, a black contrast roof, two-tone door mirrors, front parking sensors, automatic climate control, a USB-C port in the back, privacy glass and heats the steering wheel and seats.

The Ultimate trim tops the range with the seven-speed auto box set-up costing from £26,530. That means a fancier sound system courtesy of Bose, wireless phone charging, smart key, glass sunroof and blind spot warning, too. Hyundai tells us smart cruise control, an upgraded FCA and blind spot collision avoidance can also added for an extra £800.
