The Citroën Ami Charleston by Biancone is the latest special edition of the adorable quadricycle

It’s inspired by the Citroën 2CV Charleston, and boasts an identical two-tone exterior finish with a minor interior revamp

Published: 05 Feb 2024

Want a Citroën Ami that pays homage to the 2CV ‘Charleston’? Well, we have Good News! Renowned Italian designer, Massimo Biancone, has now created his own reinterpretation of said 2CV model, and christened it the ‘Ami Charleston by Biancone’.

It features an identical two-tone Rouge Delage and Noir livery to the one seen on the cult hero, with interior changes including a new central rear-view mirror, rubber mats, and a retractable canvas roof. There are less embarrassing ways of telling the world you’re a deluded Manchester United fan, mind.

Other key differences include a light beneath the dashboard, and privacy glass in place of the standard side and rear windows. On second thoughts, it’s actually the perfect place to be after one of United’s many shameful performances these days. Don’t be so rattled, United fans. We’re only pulling your leg.

Speaking on the project, Massimo Biancone said: “The journey was to look with new eyes at a product that is already in circulation and keeping in mind the history and culture of the brand allowed me to create a version capable of combining past, present and future.”

The Ami Charleston isn’t the first instance of the quadricycle to be given a makeover either, with other notable projects including the ‘Ami by Massimo Alba’ in 2022. Gosh, are only people with the first name ‘Massimo’ allowed or something?

The drivetrain should be left unchanged, so the 6kW single electric motor is expected to still produce eight-horsepower and top out at 28mph - or slightly higher when descending a steep hill. Its 46-mile range should also remain untouched, courtesy of a 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Alessandro Musumeci, marketing director of Citroën Italy, said: “It fills us with enthusiasm and pride to know that an internationally renowned designer like Massimo Biancone has decided to personalise and enhance our non-conformist and accessible mobility solution with his own style and creative technique.”

If you’re interested, you’ll need to place an order directly through Biancone’s site, since Citroën doesn’t market the Ami Charleston itself. Pricing hasn’t been disclosed yet, but expect a marked increase over the standard car’s starting price of £7,695.
