BMW celebrates 2016 DTM title with striped M4 GTS
Munich’s victory dance for winning on track is 200 striped, winged, 500bhp M4s
Only 700 examples of the hardcore BMW M4 GTS were supposed to be made. Just 30 of those were earmarked for UK buyers, and despite costing a whopping £120,770 – each – they all sold immediately.
So if you’ve been hankering for an M4 GTS and missed out first time, you owe BMW’s championship-winning DTM driver Marco Wittmann a beer.
To celebrate Wittmann’s victory in the 2016 championship of Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, BMW has announced the M4 DTM Champion Edition. 200 are being made, complete with many stripes and 100 per cent less garish orange daubed on the wheels and splitter.
There are other reasons the ‘We Are The Champions In Your Face AMG’ edition is worth a look. Reasons like the water-injected straight-six turbo engine, which pumps out 493bhp, or the 3.8sec 0-62mph time. All of this is obviously familiar from the ‘standard’ GTS, along with the carbon bonnet, roof and rear diffuser. If you’re going to wear such loud stripes, you need serious performance to back up the aesthetic aggro, no?
The price? Well, it’s only been offered in continental-spec euros for the time being, at a heady €148,500. Yup that’s around twice what you’d pay for a regular M4. But what price do you put on the sweet taste of rubbing your defeated rivals’ noses in it?
