Are you mortified or impressed by this gold-wrapped Citroen Ami?

Citroen Ami wrapped in gold, takes on supercars of London

Published: 21 Aug 2023

What should you drive into Knightsbridge if you want to turn heads? An RML Short Wheelbase? An 85 per cent scale Bentley Blower? Or this?

This is your budget option: a Citroen Ami wrapped in gold chrome for… reasons. Largely marketing reasons. Citroen is taking the quadricycle on a seven-city tour of the UK, which began last week in London.

And judging by the images, it certainly caused a stir. Walk through the green-and-dark-blue areas of the classic Monopoly board and you probably won’t blink twice at the sight of a DB5 parked outside a posh restaurant. But a gold Ami? You’re definitely doing a double take at that.

According to Citroen it’s a ‘tongue-in-cheek’ interpretation of the perfect supercar for the city, and it’s one of seven special-livered Amis heading to Bristol (today), Cardiff (23rd), Manchester (25th), Liverpool (30th), Newcastle (1st September) and finally Edinburgh (4th).

Each will bear a wrap penned by designer Jenni Sparks with nods to local landmarks for each city, and if you happen to catch any of them in your home city then you can win the Amis by scanning the QR code at Citroen’s pop-up Ami hubs.

Now, imagine yourself out-attention-seeking a fluorescent BMW i8 in a car you won in a raffle
