All versions of the Polestar 3 will get dual-motor drivetrains
Polestar’s third new model premieres on 12 Oct, and here’s your first look
Polestar has confirmed that all versions of its upcoming 3 performance SUV will feature a standard-fit dual-motor drivetrain.
This drivetrain will also feature a rear-bias and electric torque vectoring via a dual clutch system on the rear motor. Polestar also said the 3 will get adaptive dual-chamber air suspension and active dampers as standard on all 3s. It’ll sit on Volvo’s new SPA2 platform.
It’s a bid to pitch the Polestar 3 above ‘just straight-line acceleration’, and more of a dynamic performance SUV. “It’s this instant ability to transform from a comfortable cruiser to a sharp, agile performance car in less than the blink of an eye that makes Polestar 3 special as an electric performance SUV,” said Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath.
Entry-level versions will feature 483bhp, while 3s optioned with the Performance Pack will feature a 510bhp (380kW) output and 671lb ft of torque. They’ll also get Polestar Engineered chassis tweaks for the dampers and air suspension, along with gold detailing.
Ingenlath added that the 3’s low centre of gravity and wide track will provide “ultimate stability and an exciting feeling behind the wheel”. Prices for the Polestar 3 leaked online last week, starting from £78,900.
Stay tuned for the full reveal on 12 October…
