Meet Jay Kay’s one-off Ferrari

Question: what would you cut off to design your very own Ferrari? Answer: both of them.

That's exactly what Luigi Chinetti Jr, son of a famous East Coast Ferrari importer and racer, did in 1968. Design his own Ferrari, that is, not, y'know...

He commissioned the eponymous owner of Vignale coachworks, Fredo Vignale, to fit a 330 GT with shooting brake bodywork. Which he dutifully did, creating this - his last Ferrari design before his death.

Fast forward 43 years and Jamiroquai front man and thorough petrosexual, Jay Kay, learned that it'd come up for sale. He bought it immediately, drove it around a bit and, this year, decided that he'll show it off at the Salon Prive concourse d'elegance in September.

In the run-up to the event, we caught up with him to find out a bit more about this really quite mad car...

Jay Kay: "I first saw it at Goodwood - I like the unusual, quirky side of things so I bought it as soon as I heard it was for sale."

Jay Kay: "I don't like the colours, though. I'll get them changed before it comes down to Salon Prive. It's a one-off so changing the gold and blue doesn't really matter - on a car like this it's down to the owner."

Jay Kay: "It gets driven a lot. I've put 600 miles on it since I bought it last year. It's funny - nobody knows what it is until they see the Ferrari badge on the back."

Jay Kay: "It lives at home with my other cars - I've got about 68 at the moment, but this one's definitely a ‘forever' car. It's so unusual, and it's the last car Vignale ever designed."

Jay Kay: "I'm taking this and my DB6 Volante to Salon Prive to get judged. I'll be judging ladies day."
