Glickenhaus is working on a retro 650bhp SCG 006 super-spyder

Race team and supercar maker’s next project is this $250k modern classic

Published: 17 Jul 2018

Jim Glickenhaus’ newest supercar project is getting underway. And rather than rebodying a modern supercar in retro-classic clothes (like the stunning P4/5 Pininfarina) or building an all-out road-going racecar like the SCG 003, the newcomer is a thoroughly modern supercar wearing the curvaceous attire of a 1960s-style classic. This is the SCG 006.

Looks-wise, it’s inspired by the likes of the Ferrari 275 GTB, 250 California and perhaps a hint of AC Cobra. But rather than being made from hand-rolled aluminium, the 006 will be clothed in all carbonfibre panels. Pushing along what we presume will be Not Much Weight is a 650bhp supercharged V8 engine. And this is where the bespoke choices come in.

Because, you can choose if you’d like that 650bhp to end up at a manual rear-mounted gearbox, or a paddleshifter. Want the wind in your hair? Spec a spider, as seen here, or if you’re folically challenged, go for a hard-top.

You can even opt for rear-exit exhausts, if you prefer not to scorch your legs on these gorgeous side-exit pipes.

Jim Glickenhaus says the 006 will be legal in 49 US states, and there’s a possibility it will meet Californian legislation later down the line. The starting price will be around $250,000 (£190,000) – and Jim says he’s taking orders via the company’s Facebook page. How modern is that?
