Gallery: the Amelia Island Concours 2015

Published: 16 Mar 2015

Sir Stirling Moss was the honouree of the 20th Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, which kicked off last weekend. Fitting, because Sir Stirling was also the first honouree at Amelia way back in 1996, too.

What's ‘The Amelia', you might reasonably ask? Now in its second decade, this Concours event in Florida is simply a celebration of some of the world's coolest cars and car collections. The event also takes in staggeringly rare, beautiful and exotic metal offered up for auction, too. Many millions of dollars are exchanged.

This year, the organisers centred the event around Sir Stirling's astonishingly cool Mercedes-Benz racers from 1955. We're talking about the gorgeous 300 SLR he raced for ten hours to win the Mille Miglia, and the W196 Formula One racer. The ‘streamliner' he raced at Monza was also on display.

Elsewhere, we saw the Henrik Fisker-designed 725bhp Mustang, and of course, his special, one-off ‘Thunderbolt' based on the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. There were old Lamborghinis, F40s, classic Astons, and lots of sun. A good weekend, then.
