A Ford GT with ten miles on the clock is up for sale

Used cars are a minefield. You scroll through the spec: car looks tidy, it’s got a service history, it’s even in your favourite colour. And then the penny drops – it’s done four million miles. Heart sinks.

Here’s one that’ll sink your heart for entirely different reasons. It has no service history. It’s cripplingly expensive. And it’s only got two seats. Ladies and gentlemen, allow us to present your new dream machine: a 2006 Ford GT with just ten miles on the clock.

Well, 10.8 miles, if we’re being picky. It’s the first lot to be revealed at RM Sotheby’s Fort Lauderdale sale, which kicks off in April next year. A bit of time to scrounge together the estimated $300,000-$350,000 estimate, then.

Scrounge up the money you should, however, because the GT is a bit of a gem. This one – chassis number 401960 – is finished in white and features three of the four available options at the time.

Option one: those lovely BBS forged alloys. Option two: red brake calipers. Option three: those all-important blue racing stripes, which – when in conversation with friends or random people you’ve never met in a public house – allows you to add at least 500bhp to its power output. Possibly.

Of course, you know the Ford GT comes with a 5.4-litre supercharged V8 already producing 550bhp and 500lb ft of torque, enough to see off 0-60mph in three and a bit seconds, and a top speed somewhere around the 200mph mark.

And despite its blue-collar heritage, it featured an aluminium space-frame chassis with aluminium panels, independent suspension all round and a soundtrack for the ages. It’s also a descendant of the original GT40 and the predecessor to the new Ford GT. So it’s got history on its side.

According to Ford, of the 4,033 first-gen GTs built, only 726 were white. So it’s rare, too (though not as rare as the yellow ones, of which just 171 exist).
