Citroen Nemo and Peugeot Bipper news - Pair of jokers - 2007

Published: 05 Dec 2007

A few weeks back, we brought you news of three identical panel vans soon to arrive in the UK - the Fiat Fiorino, Citroen Nemo and Peugeot Bipper.

But the commercial-vehicle-based excitement doesn't stop there, because Citroen and Peugeot have both announced concept versions of their vans. Yes, concept vans - and they're possibly the daftest things we've seen this year.

Peugeot's effort is called (ready for this?) the Bipper 'Beep Beep', a vehicle apparently inspired by Pug's Le Mans 908 car.

How? Well, they've both got diesel engines. Slightly different diesel engines, true - the 908 puts out 700bhp from its 5.5-litre V12, while the Bipper manages 70bhp from its 1.4-litre HDi. Then there's that tasteful colour scheme, obviously.

Peugeot also reckons that both vehicles are united by their 'versatility and ability to weave in and out of traffic'. The second part may be true, but we're struggling to understand how the 908 qualifies as versatile.

Anyhow. We also have the Citroen Nemo Concetta. Not content with naming its van after a cartoon fish, Citroen has modelled the entire concept around the cheeky clownfish and his underwater friends. Really.

We can't help wondering whether most white van men are going to be entirely happy driving around in a vehicle plastered in cartoon aquatic vertebrates.

So how can Fiat top these two ridiculous entries? A convertible Fiorino with crushed velvet interior? How about a special Teletubbies edition?
