Citroen has dropped the Picasso (sort of)
The C4 Picasso is dead, long live the (near identical) C4 SpaceTourer
The Citroen Picasso is no more! The car driven by everyone from Ronnie Pickering to Rob Brydon (as Uncle Bryn) has been rebranded. Citroen’s people carrier is now called the SpaceTourer, bringing nearly 20 years of motoring history to a close.
Is it a marketing thing? Has the deal with Pablo’s family come to a halt? We don’t know, but Citroen hasn’t brought out a new car to mark the occasion – it’s simply rebadged all of its C4 Picassos and Grand C4 Picassos as C4 SpaceTourers and Grand C4 SpaceTourers.
Oh, and there’s a new engine and gearbox combination on offer. Namely a big 160bhp diesel with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, for peak big French car waft-ability. And peak big French car depreciation, most likely.
We’re glad to see Citroen sticking with its big MPV, though. In a crossover-mad world, lots of people have jumped ship, but the Picasso has always been one of the best people carriers out there. And it’s staved off the SUV onslaught, for now at least. Phew.
