Ford to cut 1,300 jobs in the UK

Ford has announced it will cut 1,300 jobs in the UK.

In total, 3,800 workers will lose their jobs across Europe. Ford UK’s product development teams will see 1,000 job losses, with 300 coming from UK administrative functions. Ford Germany will see the biggest hit with 2,300 job losses overall.

Elsewhere in Europe, 200 more jobs will be axed.

It follows the cut of a raft of iconic, popular models from the range that have been a staple of the British and European landscape. Late last year Ford UK announced the Fiesta – one of the UK’s best-selling cars for over a decade – along with the Galaxy and S-Max would be axed. The Mondeo too, was cut from Ford’s line-up back in 2021.

The Focus – another Ford product that regularly featured at the top of the UK’s best-seller list – will be cut in 2025, and in these cars’ places will come Ford’s new electrified line-up, featuring a couple of models using Volkswagen’s MEB platform.

Ford said around 3,400 jobs would remain in Europe focused around vehicle design and development, while it has reaffirmed its pledge to invest $50bn in electric cars throughout 2026.

“Paving the way to a sustainably profitable future for Ford in Europe requires broad-based actions and changes in the way we develop, build, and sell Ford vehicles,” said Ford Model e Europe boss Martin Sander.

"This will impact the organisational structure, talent and skills we will need in the future. These are difficult decisions, not taken lightly. We recognise the uncertainty it creates for our team, and I assure them we will be offering them our full support in the months ahead.

“We will engage in consultations with our social partners so we can move forward together on building a thriving future for our business in Europe,” Sander added.
