Ten Jag XKR-S GTs will be sold in UK

Published: 31 Jul 2013

This is the Jaguar XKR-S GT. Stare at it too long and it'll punch you in the face. And this is a problem, because ten of these track-prepared, road-legal monsters are coming to Blighty.

Revealed earlier this year as a anniversary present to Jaguar's ‘R' division - which turns 25 this year - the Jaguar XKR-S GT is a) a mouthful to pronounce, and b) very, very focused.

At the time, Jaguar announced none of the 30 units built would ever see these shores, but interest in the car "has been intense". And why not? It's a more hardcore version of the already quite hardcore XKR-S, retaining that car's lovely supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with 542 horsepowers. 0-60mph takes just 3.9 seconds - 0.3s quicker than the XKR-S - and it's limited to 186mph.

There's a six-speed auto ‘box with an active electronic diff, bespoke aero parts including a carbon-fibre front splitter, dive planes, extended wheelarch spats, an elevated rear wing, a rear diffuser and aluminium valance, all helping to increase downforce and optimise high-speed cornering.

But there's more. Jag has fitted massive carbon ceramic brakes - a first for a Jaguar production car - measuring in at 398mm and 380mm front/rear, monoblock calipers, widened the tracks and dialled up the camber, fitted new bushings, a faster steering ratio, and adopted height-adjustable adaptive dampers featuring a race-derived twin-spring system. The rates, if you're interested, have increased by 68 per cent up front and 25 per cent at the back.

What does all this mean? A Nürburgring lap time of 7m 40s, which is a new record for a road-legal Jaguar. It's also ruddy quick.

Naturally, you'll want one of these monsters. As we mentioned, just 10 are heading to the UK, each costing £135,000. First deliveries are scheduled for October this year, so better get your chequebook out...
