For sale: 2,500bhp twin-engine hot rod

Published: 06 Jan 2014

This planet contains a handful of very fast cars that boast a 1000bhp-plus engine. However, there are rather fewer that boast TWO 1000bhp-plus engines. And even fewer you can buy, right now, for the price of a Bentley Continental.

This is ‘Twice Blown', a 1932 Ford Sedan Delivery that packs not one, but two 1,250bhp engines. Each of the 9.4-litre Hemi engines has its own fuel system, starter motor and computer gubbins, but they run in tandem to send 2,500bhp to those massive tyres. Best of all? It's street legal.

We've consulted our Top Gear consumer finance team, and can report Twice Blown is off the charts on our official Bang-For-Yer-Buck scale. It's going for £128,000, meaning you get 51.2bhp per £1,000. To put that in to perspective, the Bugatti Veyron, with its 1,001bhp and eye-watering £1,130,000 price tag, gives you a mere 0.9bhp per £1,000 spent. So this is, officially, the bargain of century.

With 16 exhaust pipes, two jeroboams of nitrous, a pistol-grip gearstick and a couple of parachutes, all the must-have spec options have been ticked. They've even gift-wrapped it with a nice bow on top.

Rivals? Well, if you're considering 'Twice Blown' as your next family runabout, you ought take a look at the aircraft-engined 1908 ‘Mephistopheles' and 850bhp Blower Bentley Jeremy drove in series 18. Perfect three-car garage?
