Photo of the day: yes, that's SEVEN McLaren P1 GTRs on track

You wait ages for a track-only, 986bhp hyper-McLaren to turn up...

Published: 23 Oct 2015

How embarrassing. You turn up to a private track day with your new toy, only to discover there are not one, not two, but six other people already there with the same car. It’s every amateur racer’s nightmare.

OK, enough poking fun: McLaren’s P1 GTR Driver Programme has officially got rolling at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, Spain. That means seven P1 GTRs in a variety of loud, angry liveries duking it out together on circuit. Given only 40 or so GTRs will ever be built at around £2m a pop, that's a high concentration of speed and value in one place.

And don’t just think this is rich playboys larking about, either. To add some spice to proceedings, McLaren reportedly began the day by sending factory test driver Bruno Senna out on track to set his own benchmark lap time for the private cars to chase. This, we imagine, ended in a race.

Though, it must be said, probably not one with a helicopter gunship. Which is exactly what happened when TG.com got behind the F1-pinched wheel of the ultimate McLaren…
